Blossom Blossom awoke just after dawn. She yawned hugely, stretching her forepaws out in front of her and blinking in the shaft of golden sunlight that came in through the window. It cut through the comforting dark, shimmering on all the tiny dust motes that danced through the air. Blossom rolled her shoulders back and sat up. She sneezed a little as she shook out her fur and stood. The moss lining her nest was brown and squishy beneath her paws, and starting to smell bad. The reddish she-cat licked one of her paws, casually drawing it over her ear before leaping out of her nest and trotting across the wood plank floor to where a large pile of hay sat. Blossom pricked her ears, listening to the sounds of mice as they scuttled about in their holes. She stalked forward, picking out a shuffling sound near the surface about halfway up. She bunched her muscles under her, fixed her eyes on the tiny gap in the straw, and shot up and forward in a large bound. She hit the pile with enormous force, hooking her claws on the mouse and dragging it out. A dozen more panicked mice immediately fled the pile, scattering in all directions. Blossom killed one more with a swipe of her paw, leaving the rest to live another day. She carried the two mice over to her favorite spot by the window, hopping up on the ledge to watch the sunrise and eat her breakfast as she thought about the day ahead. She would have to leave her barn to collect fresh moss from the woods, which wouldn’t be a problem at all. That in and of itself would be enough of an adventure for one day. She barely even left the barn anymore, but why would she? She had everything she needed right here. Of course, it got a little lonely some times, but she’d find a tom eventually. Right? Blossom sighed, standing up and licking her lips to clear the last of the mouse from her muzzle. She paused to lick down her chest fur, then leaped out of the window onto the slanted roof, where she slid down and landed in the soft grass. “Time to go to the woods,” she muttered to herself, setting off at a comfortable pace across the fields.

Buckley Buckley woke up at dawn like he usually did, enjoying the sound of the rooster's crowing and watching the sun turn the clouds a gentle pink. He loved this time of day, though waking up early wasn't always his favorite thing to do. But today, he forced himself up just so he could enjoy a few moments of silence. He hadn't heard from his brother in days and he hadn't visited his mother and father in a while. He was beginning to feel the loneliness and yearned to find someone he could spend some time with.
The sun cleared the trees, marking the start to the day. Buckley stood up and stretched, deciding he should probably find something to do. After giving his back and chest a few licks, he set off toward a patch of trees to see if anything exciting was going on over there.

Blossom Blossom trotted through the grass, allowing her long tail to swish back and forth, skimming the wheat tufts. Comfortable in the warm sunlight, she closed her eyes to tiny slits and allowed the long strands to brush against her face. As she walked, she hummed a little bit—Nothing in particular, just a little melody she made up as she went along, with whatever words she could think of. “The leaves in the breeze and the wind in the trees and my heart is flying, never felt so free…” They were meaningless words, really, but she always had enjoyed making up little songs, even when she was little and couldn’t do more than squeak. She listened to the sound of her voice float away on the wind. However selfish she might sound, she enjoyed the sound of her voice when she sang. She smiled to herself, listening to the last echoes of her melody fade out over the grassy plain. Perhaps she had been singing a little louder than she intended to, but that didn’t really matter. No one seemed to be around to hear her, anyways.

Buckley Buckley perked his ears up as he heard another cat's voice. I wonder you that can be? He mused, swinging his head around to find the other cat. A companion would be nice, at least for today. He then spotted a red coat and knew this must be a mystery cat. He padded toward her, noticing that she was oblivious to everything around her. It seemed like she was in her own little word and it made him chuckle. "What'cha singing pretty lady?" He asked her, smiling.

Blossom Blossom stopped singing, mortified, as another cat’s mew reached her ears. She spun around to see a tom standing in the grass not four feet away from her. His voice had a Southern lilt to it that was somehow familiar, though she was positive she hadn’t met this tom before. In fact, she hadn’t met anyone new in a long time, since she was usually cooped up in her barn. Amidst her jumbled-up thoughts, she realized the strange cat had asked her a question. “I… Uh, it was nothing,” she replied, scuffing the dirt with her paws. “I was just making it up as I went along. Sorry if it bothered you.” She blushed under her fur, because this tom was rather handsome and she’d just made a complete fool of herself.

Buckley Buckley smiled. "Nah, don'tcha worry about it. You weren't doin' any harm to anyone." He walked over to her and flicked her shoulder with his tail to greet her. He looked at her amber eyes and he felt a sort of pull toward them. It was as if he recognized her, but he didn't remember meeting her before. Maybe sometime in the past... he looked closer and decided he has definitely seen her before, but he just couldn't put his finger on it. He cleared his throat, realizing that we was staring. "Pardon my manners, miss. I'm Buckley." He meowed.

Blossom Blossom felt her ears burning as the cat examined her closely. His eyes settled on hers, and she could see the gears struggling to turn in his head. After a second, he seemed to break out of a trance and told her his name. She blinked. “Buckley?” Blossom tipped her head curiously to one side, examining the tom more closely. “Buckley… Your name sounds familiar. I’m sorry, do I know you from somewhere?” She ran her eyes across his sturdy form again, probing her mind of any trace of memory. After a moment, she shook her head and stepped back. “I’m sorry, it’s probably just my imagination.” She blushed. “My name is Blossom.”

Buckley Buckley chuckled. "I was just about to ask you the same thing." He replied. "I don't really remember. I mean, you look a little familiar to me but... I dunno." He shrugged, giving her a wide smile. "Well anyway, it's nice to meet 'ya miss Blossom." Buckley flicked her shoulder again and walked closer so the distance between them was the same as before she stepped backwards. He grinned and whistled a little tune, letting her know it was alright to sing. He especially loved to do it, it kept him occupied. "We can sing together, then it won't be so embarrassing for 'ya."

Blossom Blossom's head swam, and she shook her head to clear it. “I really wish I could figure this out. It’s really bothering me.” She listened as Buckley hummed a few notes, then laughed nervously. “I… I don’t really sing on cue. I just sort of sing when I feel like it and I…” She stopped as something clicked in her mind. A long-forgotten memory dredged up out of the darkest corner of her consciousness. “Wait. I know that tune! I remember it from a long time ago, when I was a kitten.” She sang the next few notes to prove it to Buckley. “See?”

Buckley Buckley listened to her voice, and it was almost as if something had reawakened inside of him. But he just couldn't figure out what. He knew that he knew her, he just couldn't remember from where. That tune was a song his mother always sang to him, so he didn't really understand how she would know it. She hummed it around the barn and he kinda memorized it and sang it ever since he was young. Only his brother knew the tune, and maybe some of their old kittenhood friends... That's it! Those eyes, that voice... her name. Blossom! Her name had rung a bell at first but now it rang clear as day. "Blossom!" Buckley said excitedly. "You don't remember me? We used to play together all the time! It was me and my brother Oakley, and my mother Lizzie... our mothers were friends for a little while. Remember?"

Blossom Blossom gaped. Everything made so much more sense now. The feeling she couldn’t shake off, the lilt in his voice, the same bright eyes… “It is you!” She took a cautious step forward. “I haven’t seen you in so long! How are Lizzie and Oakley? And what have you been doing? You completely vanished from my life!” She shook her head in wonder. “I can’t believe I found you again.”

Buckley Buckley chuckled. "Yes, it's been a really long time. Everyone is doing just fine." He replied, still having a stupid grin plastered on his face. "And yeah I know... me and Oakley went off on our own a couple years back. I didn't mention it cause we hadn't seen each other in so long. Just growing up I guess." Buckley shrugged. He hadn't realized how much he had missed Blossom until he saw her in front of him. He began to wonder about all of his kittenhood friends. Where had everyone else gone? He knew he had had lots of playmates when he was younger, but there had always been something about Blossom that was special to him. She was his favorite, besides his brother. He was ashamed that he had ever forgotten about her.

Blossom Blossom purred contentedly. "I'm glad they're okay," she mewed. "It seems like it's been so long since I've seen them... and you." A blush crept up her cheeks and she grinned cheekily at him. "Remember when we used to play as kittens?" She asked, "and I would always beat you at wrestling?" She laughed a little bit. "I can't believe how much everything has changed since then."

Buckley Buckley nodded. He still could not believe how this day was turned from boring to crazy so quickly. He never even imagined he would run into Blossom again. The country was such a big place, yet he still managed to run into the pretty she-cat from his childhood. Weird how these things happened. "I bet I could take you now." Buckley challenged, narrowing his eyes. He was a bit little when he was younger, but now he was full grown and covered in lean muscles. Blossom wouldn't beat him so easily this time! He chuckled at the thought.

Blossom Sofie lashed her tail, grinning. "Oh, you think so?" She asked. "Let's give it a go, then!" She glanced over the lean tom's body, silently doubting that she could actually win this fight. But it was just playing, and besides, half of the fight was the bluffing. "I'll string you from a tree by your ears!" She crowed, using one of her favorite kit-hood threats. She shrank into a crouch and then shot herself forward, straight onto Buckley's back. "Got you!" She yowled, hanging onto his scruff and pummeling his back with her hind paws.
