Taysen It was raining. No, not raining, pouring. Taysen grumbled as he walked through the wet grass, rain dripping off his whiskers. Why was he out in this weather? It had been raining for days, and no one in his family had wanted to brave the weather. His mother was pregnant, the first litter that was actually sired by his mother, Oakley. The brown tom had trouble being away from Emiline for too long, and his sister, Gingerbelle, never really was the best hunter, finding it hard to pay attention for too long. That left Taysen to go out into the rain and try to find some food, some type of prey that wasn't hiding in its den. He hadn't had a warm meal since yesterday morning, and even the field mice that hid in the barn were beginning to grow skinnier and hide away from the hungry cats. His mother especially needs the food, with her being in only the beginning stages of her pregnancy, the most crucial time. The hunger gnawing in his stomach and the thought of his mother drove Taysen on through the torrent of water. He put his nose down to the sodden ground, only the get only the scent of mud and rain water. He'd been out here for a couple hours now, soaked down to his skin, and with nothing to show for it. Feeling discouraged, he let out a sigh and started looking around for a place he could rest and dry off so he could have the energy to look around again before the moon rose to the center of the sky. He spotted a barn, actually more like a shack, up ahead. It was almost invisible through the downpour, but he made sense of it and started walking toward it. It looked more like a chicken coop, but why would it be in the middle of the field, with no barn or house nearby? Then he noticed the charred edges, and noticed patches of grass that were brown and seared to the ground. It appeared previous building had been torched, probably from a spring storm, and the coop was the only thing still standing. He silently hoped no lives had been lost as he climbed up the blackened ramp and into the coop. It still smelled slightly of charcoal, but it was cozy inside and there was fresh hay in the places where chickens would normally rest. Wait... fresh hay? He sniffed, but he couldn't pick up a scent besides the smell of charcoal, wood, and hay. Some cat must be staying here, but he couldn't smell then. Tay shrugged; he wasn't going back into the rain, so he could only hope the other was friendly.
OOC: I hope the chicken coop is an okay place for her to live :c or at least it can be a temporary place?

Avelyn sighed as she shifted on her nest of hay, frowning a bit as she watched the downpour of rain right outside. There had been clouds in the distance all morning, but the rain itself had come as a surprise, the wind suddenly picking up and bringing a flood of water with it. Avelyn had been outside hunting when it had started, and had barely managed to catch a fleeing rabbit before returning to the chicken coop she had claimed as her home. She had wanted to make a bigger catch (prey was getting harder to find, after all), but the rabbit would last her the day and then some. Hopefully the rain would be gone by then. She had only been on her own for a few months, but she supposed she was doing fine. She could hunt, that was certain, and she figured the chicken coop wasn't a bad place to live. The human barn that had once accompanied it had burned down long ago, so she could safely assume that the little shack she lived in was safe from any humans. It was a nice place, lots of left over hay from the chickens who used to live there, and it was her longest place of residence yet. She figured she would settle down in it for the winter before moving out in the spring, just to have a safe place for when the biting cold of winter came. She could always move in with her brother Devereoux and their cousins for the winter, but she didn't want to seem like she had to rely on her family for help. She was an independent she-cat, after all, and could certainly take care of herself.
Avelyn was just settling down, curling into a ball to try and get warm before her ears pricked as she heard something in her coop. Her head quickly lifted with surprise, frowning a bit with confusion. She knew the occasional mouse snuck in, but they never made that much noise. So what...? The she-cat hesitated only briefly before shifting to poke her head over the ledge she was elevated on, and blinked with complete surprise when she found herself looking at another cat. Who in the world was that? Her head slightly tilted to the side, watching the stranger with confusion. A tom, around her age by the looks of him. Looking for shelter form the storm? She considered him for a few moments before deciding the best way to find out would simply be to ask.
"Um....hello." she called down uncertainly. Did he know she was here? Probably not, since the coop smelled just as deserted as it looked. "What are you doing here? This is my coop, y'know, and you'll have a tough time making me leave." May as well just ask straight out, right? She did make sure she had an escape in sight, just in case he wasn't as nice as he looked and decided to attack. She really didn't plan on fighting, so if this cat really did plan on taking over her home, she would just plum out of luck and would have to go find Devereux after all.

Taysen Taysen sighed. So there was another cat here after all. He turned around, darting his eyes back and forth to try to find the other feline, then finally met the stunning hazel eyes of the patched she-cat above him. "Oh... sorry, miss." He mumbled. Well, shit. She was gorgeous and he looked like crap, all soggy and muddy and just... like crap. Yeah, that summed it up. "It's pouring outside, and this was the closest place I could find. If you want I can leave..." He looked sadly back out in the rain, dreading going back into the downpour. "Though I really don't want to." Usually he would be flirting, trying to woo her, but the rain really dampened his spirits and he knew he did not look his finest. His usually shining, copper-hued fur was sodden, looking more of a dark rusty color. Rain never did him any good, and he absolutely hated water, in any way, shape, or form. He looked back at the she-cat, taking in her bright white fur that was dappled with brown and black patches, her bright hazel eyes and fluffy cheeks. "Where are my manners..." He said, clearing his throat. "My name is Taysen. I live in a barn a few miles back. I was just out looking for prey... you see. My ma is pregnant and we haven't had a decent meal in a few days. But I got stuck in that storm and... well here I am." He sighed, thinking of his parents back at home. Hopefully some mice went into the barn for shelter and his father and Oakley had been able to catch some. He hated seeing his family starving... if it wasn't raining he would have continued to hunt until his paws fell off. But he couldn't risk catching pneumonia, especially with winter just around the corner.

Avelyn's head tilted lightly to the side as she listened to the stranger speak, eyes thoughtful and curious. He certainly didn't seem dangerous, and he was kinda cute too. Even with his soaked fur. "Hm. Taysen." She paused for a moment, considering him for a moment before she smiled and stood, taking a moment to stretch before hoping off the perch she had been settled on. She couldn't very well send him away now, right?
"Well, I guess you can stay." she then decided as she smiled up at him now that she was on level ground. "I'm not so bad as to send you back out in that rain!" Even if he did seem suspicious, she didn't think she could send any cat back into hat downpour. But he seemed trustworthy. Besides, he really did look like he hadn't had a good meal in quite some time. "I have some prey you can have!" she then spoke up with a wide smile, moving away to clamber back onto her perch and grab the rabbit she had managed to catch earlier that day. "You can have some of this." she then meowed after she dragged it back down to place it before Taysen. "I managed to catch it earlier. There's still a lot of prey out here. Maybe when the rain slows down I can help you catch some food to bring back to your mama?" Despite having just met this cat, she was already willing to take time out of her life to help her out. Her family had always been worried that this trusting attitude would get her hurt, but hey, it hadn't done any harm yet, right? And Taysen looked to be a trustworthy cat who just needed a little help. So help was exactly what she'd offer him.

Taysen Taysen let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much, miss." He relaxed a bit and slumped down to the floor. He was exhausted... all he really wanted to do was curl up in a ball and get some sleep. But the smell of the rabbit was inviting, and as much as he hated to take prey from her and seem so weak, he bent over and took a good sized bite of the rabbit, chewing thoughtfully and enjoying the savory taste. "You sure know how to catch a good rabbit." He chuckled, taking a much smaller bite. He didn't want to eat too much and seem like a pig, especially when she had been the one to bring it down. He felt pretty sheepish, coming up empty-pawed for days while this girl was able to bring down a good sized piece of prey in just the early morning. He wiped the blood off his mouth. "Thanks." He managed to get out before yawning, his shoulders slumping. His eyelids droops and he looked around, trying to figure out where he could sleep, or if he even really should. This wasn't his place after all, and this girl only said he could take shelter here. She never told him he could curl up in the soft hay and fall asleep... no matter how much he wanted to. Instead, he just twisted around and started to lick the rain water off his fur. He was still pretty sodden and if he did fall asleep, doing do with wet fur was not very smart. He should at least get himself partially cleaned off. Numbly, he began to lick his fur the wrong way, both to get it clean and to warm him up at the same time. He realized he was beginning to shiver, her teeth chattering. God damn it, this is why I hate rain... He gritted his teeth. He hated being wet and cold... but hated it. "Um, miss... would you find if I used some of your hay?" He pushed himself up, giving himself a gentle shake. "I kinda cold and..." He was interrupted by a sneeze, and he crinkled up his nose, sniffling. "Ah... damn. I don't mix all that wet with the rain, obviously. I despise water, actually." He chuckled weakly, looking longingly over at the hay. As much as he hated seeming pathetic... maybe it was worth it, so she wouldn't kick him out anytime soon. There was still a monsoon outside anyway.
