Calliope
[/size] Callie padded along the quiet nighttime streets, a sigh of boredom escaping her lips. This really was quite a dull night. Usually there was something to do, even if it wasn't much of a 'something'. Anything would beat this, she thought to herself. The dusty brown she-cat continued her lazy path along the sidewalk, allowing her tail to swish the concrete below her paws as she glanced around. Why wasn't anyone out? There had to be someone to argue with. Callie really felt like arguing with someone. "This is boring," she grumbled aloud. "Why is there nothing to do?!" Her voice rose louder than she intended and sent a couple of birds fleeing from their perch as it echoed off the buildings around her. Callie glared up at them, feeling angered by the racket they'd created, but it wasn't worth chasing them. Instead, she just contented herself with sliding her claws out and allowing them to scratch against the sidewalk. This is the worst night of my life.

Ryder Ryder was just enjoying his time out in the city, enjoying the sites and the smells that they offered. "Damn, this is better than the country!" He exclaimed. He was so glad he had decided to make this move! Everything was more exciting, especially the ladies. And oh, who was that in front of him? Ryder caught site of a light brown she-cat and he was instantly interested. He sped up a little bit until he was right behind her. "Helloooo there." He meowed in a cool, collected tone. "My name is Ryder, and what might yours be? Probably something as lovely as yourself." His smooth words always won him points with the girls, and he was sure this time wouldn't be any different.

[/size][/i] Callie heard the obnoxiously loud tomcat before she smelled him. He was behind her, probably about twenty paces back. She heard him make some kind of exclamation about the city being better than the country, and rolled her eyes. Country toms, she snorted. Not bothering to be subtle (she never did), Callie sped up her pace to distance herself from this annoying cat behind her. Not three seconds later, she heard pawsteps and the same voice, this time calmer. He was very obviously trying to be cool, but he just sounded stupid to Callie. She wasn't one to walk away from a potential fight, but this cat- Ryder, apparently- wouldn't even be fun to argue with. His voice was too annoying. "Get lost!" she called without looking back. Whoever this Ryder was, he could go seduce a different she-cat.

Ryder Well, that was rude. But Ryder was not going to give up that easily. "Now, what makes you so sour?" He asked, tilting his head. "I didn't do nothing to you. I'm just trying to start a conversation." Wow, he'd never met a she-cat with such an attitude before. It was... well, it was freaking hot! It just made him for interested. A little spitfire, she was. Oh well, he could be a little spitfire too. He raced ahead of her and blocked her back, bending down with his haunches in the air, lashing his tail. He unsheathed his claws and narrowed his eyes. "What'cha gonna do now, spitfire?" He growled.

[/size][/i] Spitfire? Oh, it was on. Callie felt her hackles rise. Who did this Ryder think he was? Rudely bursting in and ruining her perfect night. Oh, wait. She remembered how bored she'd been five minutes ago and wondered if this was the universe's way of teaching her a lesson. Well, it wouldn't work. This cat is going to need a therapist when I'm done with him. Callie leaned down, sticking her face right in Ryder's and giving him her most withering glare. "Look, you," she snarled, "I was having a perfectly good night before you busted in and ruined it. And yeah, you ain't the first. I know your kind-- You think you're all that, don't you? Probably strut around, collecting she-cats in a trail behind you. How many girlfriends do you have, pretty boy? Well, you can cross me off the list. I said it once and I will say it again: Get. Lost." Satisfied with herself, Callie straightened up and stalked around Ryder to continue on her way. //Ooc: Okay, Cal is OFFICIALLY my favorite kitty.[/sub][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ryder Ryder's scruff began to rise and he put his ears against his head. God, this girl is a real piece of work! he thought as she brushed past him and continued on his way. He watched her walk away and was about to turn around and head back, but then he saw a dark shadow stalking toward the other cat. He watched as the darker cat, a rogue by the looks of him, got closer to the light brown cat. He didn't look like he had good intentions what so ever, by the way his movements were stiff and his hackles raised. But why do I care, she told me to get lost. But he knew that instant that he couldn't just let her get mauled. Ryder lunged forward at the same moment the rogue jumped on top of the she-cat and raked his fangs down her neck.

[/i] Stupid country tom, Callie grumbled to herself as she heard footsteps behind her. What does he want now? She whipped around to confront him and saw Ryder with a determined look on his face. He was still several paces behind, where she'd left him. So who was-- Callie screeched in surprise as a heavy weight dropped down on her from above. She crumpled against the sidewalk and heard the distinct crunch of bone. Ribbons of pain shot up her left leg, but her scream was cut off as she felt sharp fangs rake down her neck. I've got to fight back, she thought. Gritting her teeth against the pain, Callie rolled over and swiped her claws across the strange tom's face. Black spots danced across her vision and suddenly her limbs were too heavy to lift. In her mind, though, she was still active and energetic. I can't go down like this! There's no way I'm going to lose to this fleabag. It seemed she didn't have a choice, though. Callie was barely able to move, much less fight. She let out an exasperated sigh, coughing as blood caught in her throat. This sucks. [/right][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ryder Ryder jumped on top of the black tom and he yowled in surprise and started bucking his legs in the air. Ryder bit into his neck, but he mostly just got thick, black fur in his mouth. The rogue then rolled on his back, causing Ryder to lose his grip. He saw the brown she-cat, barely hanging onto consciousness, and Ryder couldn't believe he had been the snippy, little spitfire he had just met. He needed to help her, but first he needed to defeat this rogue. Speak of the devil, the rogue took Ryder by surprise, raking his claw down his shoulder. Ryder yowled in pain and leaped onto the rogue, raking his claws down his exposed stomach and biting into his ear. After much biting and yowling and clawing, the two toms broke about and glared at each other, breathing heavily with blood dripping. Then the rogue turned tail and ran away, leaving Ryder with the she-cat. He has a scratch on his shoulder that was bleeding, but it wasn't very deep. His ear was also torn and his nose scratched, but that was the worst of the damage. This she-cat, on the other paw, was in bad shape. The rogue had caught her completely by surprise, making it easier for him to do a number on her. Ryder raced to her side and, without hesitating, grabbed her scruff and dragged her into an alley between two buildings. He couldn't just leave her in the middle of the sidewalk. "It's going to be okay." He meowed, mostly to himself.

[/i][/size] Callie lay on her side, bright colors swimming across her vision, and waited for the blackness to take her. She always promised herself she'd go down fighting and have a strong death. A broken leg and a neck wound. Somehow, she'd imagined it would take more than this to kill her. Oh, well... Callie attempted to shrug it off, as she had done her whole life, but it was very hard to shrug when lying facedown on concrete. She felt bone scrape against bone, but all she could muster was a faint hiss of pain. I'm not weak. I'm not some pathetic she-kitty who always needs a tomcat looking after her. Why can't I get up? And where was the rogue? He hadn't come to finish her off yet. It took her a moment, but Callie registered the sounds of two cats fighting. It was that rogue and... It sounded like Ryder. That was odd. Maybe the rogue had attacked him after he finished with Callie. I'm not dead yet, she told herself. That rogue thought he was finished with me. He'll pay for it. Callie closed her eyes against the dazzling colors dancing through her vision and breathed in. She was able to discern three scents- Ryder's, the smell of blood, and a tangy, disgusting smell that must belong to the rogue. Not that the other two weren't tangy and disgusting, but his was particularly vile. Callie took in a few more breaths until she was sure she would remember his scent. I will be his end, she promised. If I don't die first. And indeed, it seemed futile to try hanging on. Her fur was drenched in sticky blood and the pains in her leg and neck were overwhelming. But Callie, weak in her body, was not weak in her mind. She was listening intently to the fight, waiting for something to happen. Then, silence. The fighting died away completely. Did I go deaf? she wondered curiously. Nah, surely not. The fight must be over. She could hear one cat left, breathing heavily. But who was it? The muscles in Callie's neck quivered and cried out in pain as she took a light sniff to figure out who it was. She caught both scents, but it seemed that the other tom's had already started to fade away, leaving only Ryder. Moments later, she felt teeth around her scruff and became aware that she was being dragged somewhere. The panic of an injured animal set in and she thrashed around wildly for a few seconds, a tattered yowl escaping her throat, before giving in and relaxing her muscles. The grip on her scruff was released and she heard Ryder say something very faintly. Leave me alone, Callie thought. Get away from me. Shivering, the dusty she-cat curled up to protect herself. See? I'm fine. Go away. But Callie could not speak. So she let out a soft hiss and collapsed to the comforting blackness. [/sub][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ryder "How the hell did this happen? That bastard!" Ryder growled, standing over the she-cat's body. He didn't even know her name! His evening went from normal and quiet, just looking for a new girl to hang with, when that damn rogue just had to go and attack them. What was the point? What had they ever done to him? He couldn't believe that some cats would just come out of no where and injure cats just for pure pleasure. It disgusted him. But Ryder couldn't just sit there and seethe. He had in injured cat to take care of. She had slipped into full unconsciousness now so Ryder didn't have to worry about her biting his head off anymore. He sniffed at her neck wound, where blood was still flowing. He placed his paws on top of it and applied pressure. The blood oozed between his toes and he could feel her pulse, and it turned his stomach a bit. But he continued to push down until the flow subsided to a small trickle. He removed his paws, flicking off the blood, then licked the wound until the bleeding completely stopped and it was clean.
Now the worst injury, her leg. It was twisted at a very awkward and obviously painful angle. Ryder sniffed it, touching is hesitantly with his paw. He felt the hematoma and he knew it was full of blood and probably filling more with time. "I wonder if she broke a blood vessel. Well, obviously she did, but a mean a major one." He said out loud. He eyed the injury, trying to decide whether he should leave it alone, or lance it. Either one could be dangerous. If she left it, it could get infected and heal the wrong way, permanently forming her leg in an awkward position. But if he lanced it, she could bleed to death. And he might not even be able to fix it. He was extremely puzzled, unsure what to do. He thought about what his family would do, but none of them had ever had to deal with an injury like this. Making a split second decision, Ryder unsheathed his claws and slashed open the swollen leg. Blood rushed out immediately, forming a small pool that soaked Ryder's paws even more. When the sudden gush passed, the bleeding slowed, but only slightly. He noticed the severed blood vessel and clamped it in his jaws. He didn't bite his fangs in, but only kept it shut. Blood entered his mouth and he gagged, but he kept his jaws firmly shut. He stayed like that for a long time. His muscles ached and he continuously changed positions, but he didn't stop until he was sure the bleeding had slowed down substantially. He gently released his grip and turned around, spitting up the blood he had swallowed. He was still gagging, but he had to finish the job. He went back over and licked her fur free of the blood, both dry and wet. Then he looked back at her broken leg. The white of her bone shone through the torn muscle, and he could clearly see the rigid break. He tried to move it back, gritting his teeth and narrowing his eyes. He got it lined up, but every time he released it, it slipped back down. Not at bad as before, but he figured there was no way he could get it to see properly. Her leg is gonna be useless... He realized, shaking his head.

[/color] Callie groaned as she slid back into consciousness, squeezing her eyes tighter against the warm sunlight beating against her face. Everything was blurry and dull and she could barely remember anything from the previous night, but as the feeling in her limbs trickled back, her mind cleared and she jolted into a sitting position. Her eyes flew open to see Ryder still sitting in front of her before agonizing talons of pain shot up her leg so quickly that she collapsed with a screech and lay on the ground, panting, eyes wide. Her leg had hurt before, but now it was even worse. She took a moment to mentally probe her leg, and realized there was a huge gash in it. She snarled quietly. "What did you do to me, pretty boy?" she snapped, amber eyes blazing up at Ryder. "Thought you'd just cut up my leg a little bit more, huh?" Careful to keep her broken limb off the ground as much as possible, Callie rose to her paws, hissing. "I don't need your help. Get away from me." She began to limp down the alley, toward the street, but her uninjured front paw landed on a shard of glass. Unbalanced without either front leg, she fell to the ground again with her broken leg splayed out at an awkward angle next to her. Her tail lashed and she made another attempt to stand up, but only managed to draw herself into an awkward sitting position. She bent her head in shame and anger, refusing to turn and acknowledge that Ryder was still behind her. [/right][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ryder Are you fucking kidding me? Ryder growled and lunged forward. She was going to mess up everything he had just done and just hurt herself again! And there it was, she stepped on glass and cut up her other, uninjured front leg. He got right in her face and lost it. "You listen to me right now, you little brat! I risked my life to save yours, beat that rogue and sent him fleeing, and did everything in my power so you wouldn't die from your wounds! Without me, you'd be dead right now, and don't say you'd rather be dead cause we both know that isn't true! You wouldn't have bled out in minutes, and I could have just left you there, but I didn't. Your neck isn't bleeding now is it? No, it's not! And I may have had to cut your leg open, but if I didn't you would have bled to death from internal bleeding! It's not bleeding anymore either, is it? None of your wounds are bleeding anymore! But oh, now you went around and cut yourself again! Do you have no respect for yourself, or anyone in this fucking city?! If you're not going to thank me, at least stop trying to be all cool and disrespectful, and go back there and rest so you don't reopen anything! The blood is just going to attract some unwanted company." When he finished, he was breathing heavily, his own injuries starting to sting and ache. He hadn't gotten any rest as he had been taking care of her the whole time. And she didn't even care. She wasn't grateful or anything. Why did I even bother?

[/color][/i] Callie narrowed her eyes, sizing up Ryder. He didn't seem to have many injuries and he definitely had a lot of breath in him. The she-cat snorted, but admittedly felt a grudging respect for him. He had saved her life, and she was thankful for that, sure. But he didn't have to keep taking care of her! It was hard to argue with a tirade like that, though. And she was tired. If this cat showed up on a silver platter and offered to take care of her, well, who was she to argue? "Fine," she shrugged, standing up and limping past Ryder to sit in a shady next to the wall. The she-cat lazily slid back on her haunches and raised her forepaw to lick the blood out. She felt the glass shard embedded in her paw and yanked it out with her teeth. She spit it off to one side and slammed her bleeding paw against the ground to apply pressure. After a few heartbeats, she raised it again, licked the blood off it and then sighed. "This is boring." she muttered. //Ooc: Lol I just realized that Ryder still doesn't know Callie's name XD [/blockquote][/blockquote][/sub][/right]

Ryder Ryder snorted in response and followed after her. He watched her clean her paw, then let out an exasperated sigh. "Well now that you're awake, could you at least tell me your name?" He asked. All this time, he hadn't even known her name, yet he still saved her life. I'm just noble, I guess. He thought with a smirk. He laid down and started to clean out his own wounds, cringing when the grit and blood hit his tongue. The taste was so disgusting! "Anyway, it didn't take much for that rogue to pin you down. Weak leg?" He questioned, smiling at her with a touch of indignation.

[/color][/i] Callie shot Ryder a look, then sighed. He was very self-confident, that was for sure. "My name is Calliope," she replied, wincing at the sound of her own name, "But if you call me that, I will hurt you, pretty boy. So call me Callie instead." She glared at him as he spoke next. "I took a worse beating than you did and I'm walking around. Don't go calling me weak.. [/blockquote][/blockquote][/sub][/right]
