HISTORY:
Buckley and Oakley were born to Lizzie and Felix on a warm spring morning. They were born in a nest of hay, safely tucked away in the back of the barn where the two lovebirds lived. Felix and Lizzie met in that barn, Felix tempted by the fat mice and Lizzie living comfortably there while her humans stayed in the house up the hill. It was love at first site, or so they say. The couple were young, Lizzie only a year old and Felix three years old. But age didn't matter to them, they were in love and that was all that mattered. When the boys were born, Lizzie and Felix were a bit older. Lizzie had just hit the five year mark, making Felix seven years. The pregnancy wasn't exactly planned; the two wanted kits, but they also enjoyed their freedom. They flip-flopped between wanting to start trying and wanting to prevent it. Then one day, Lizzie popped up pregnant and the decision was made. They never regretted having their sons though. The delivery was long and painful, but once Lizzie laid eyes on her sons, she was infatuated with them. Felix also adored them, but he was nervous with newborn kitten and kept his distance at first. Lizzie didn't mind though, she enjoyed the special bonding time she had with her kits the first few weeks of their lives. The boys grew quickly as kittens do. Once they opened their eyes, Felix became more comfortable around them, and soon both of their parents were cooing over them 24/7. Their personalities sprouted up soon afterwards, Buckley becoming the charming guy he is now, but only so he could get what he wanted, whether it be milk or more playtime. Even as Lizzie was trying to wean him, she couldn't resist Buckley's big, round eyes and she ended up letting his nurse just a little longer. Oakley was more adventurous, venturing farther and farther out of the nest each day. Buckley tagged along, and Oakley became the protective older brother (being a few minutes older). Felix and Lizzie took the boys outside for the first time when they were three months old. After that, the brothers were always outside, rolling around in the long grass and chasing crickets and dragonflies. They would walk around with straw dangling from their mouths, just like they saw the humans doing. They had a blast outside, enjoying the warmth of the sun on their pelts. Then the weather got colder and the rain began to come. Lizzie explained that, even though the rain kept them indoors, it was good for their humans' crops, and without it, their land would dry up. Buckley hated the rain though, especially when him and Oakley both came down with colds. Lizzie kept them in their nests all day, fretting over them, even though they weren't that sick. Buckley and Oakley complained the whole time while Lizzie licked their noses and eyes clean. They wanted to run around the barn and play, but both parents were strict about their rest, much to their dismay. The rain kept coming down, and the cold air kept coming in, and the boys didn't get better for a week. But when Lizzie finally cleared them, they did not hesitate. Oakley ran out of the nest first, with Buckley hard on his heels. During winter, the boys grew big and strong. Buckley was the tall one, like his father, with lean muscles rippling down his legs and back. Oakley filled out, with broad shoulders and a muscly rump. He was a real looker, Lizzie would always say, while Buckley was the sweetheart. The boys turned one year old that spring and they announced it was time for them to leave the barn. This saddened their parents, who wished they would stay so they could live together as a family. But they also understood; their sons were grown now. They needed to be independent, maybe even start their own families. And so the brothers left, side by side. Once the barn disappeared behind them, Buckley and Oakley parted ways. Oakley was interested in finding his own barn out in the country, while Buckley was interested in the city. But, as the saying goes, you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy. Buckley liked the city, but his roots showed. He kept his southern accent and still longed for the smell of hay and long grass tickling his nose. He bounced back and forth from his parents' barn to the city, and Lizzie and Felix always welcomed him. But they were worried, since Buckley was growing older and still never spoke of any girls. He didn't have a permanent residence, but then again, neither did Oakley. But at least their older son brought a girl home every once in a while, or at least spoke of one that he came across. But Buckley wasn't interested in finding love just yet. He still had the rest of his life. He wanted to see as much of the city as he could, and explore the wilderness as well. The girl for him is out there somewhere, he's sure of it. And he will find her someday, but on his own time.
