Sofie Peace and quiet. All Sofie wanted was some peace and quiet. Ever since the humans had brought home their second kit two days ago, Sofie hadn’t been able to get a wink of sleep because it was always wailing. Even the older kit was up more, running about the house into more extreme hours of the day and night. Often, it had friends over, who picked Sofie up over and over again, forced her into cute little beds and played chase with her. At the current moment, it was more hellish than usual. The newborn kit had been up screaming all night so far, the older one and its friends had been bugging her all day, and the grown-up ones kept shooing her rudely out of their path as they tromped about the house. Sofie was in the kitchen, trying to eat, when she felt tiny paws scoop her up. Yowling furiously, she wriggled out of the kit’s grasp and slithered out the barely-open window. Outside, the sounds from the house were muted, less annoying. It was dark out and Sofie was a bit nervous, but anything was better than being inside with those kits ruling the house. Maybe I can go visit Asia, Sofie reckoned. She’s sometimes up late. The calico she-cat leaped the fence in one bound and curled her claws against the concrete sidewalk. She decided it would be safest to stick to the shadows, so she kept her left side to the wall as she padded into the depths of the city. She knew Asia lived somewhere nearby… Oh, there she was! Anastasia was sound asleep in their usual spot. Suddenly, Sofie caught sight of Mason, a little way off and awake. She blushed a little and was hesitant to approach, but finally she decided that if she couldn’t hang out with Asia, she could at least crash with her for the night. //ooc: Here is where we can have them meet c:

Mason Mason walked down the street, twitching his tail with each step he took. He made sure he was well out of the way of other cats, or at least the most talkative ones. Talking was not really something he was too fond of doing. He was horrible at making conversation and preferred to avoid it at all cost. Especially now, when his mind was reeling with thoughts. The information Anastasia had given him was definitely a shock. He had never imagined himself settling down with a she-cat, and so to have one, especially his sister's best friend, have a crush on him was kind of weird. Mason didn't even like cats in general, so it was a surprise someone liked him. He had never been attracted to another feline, or another animal at all. It was kind of weird, seeing cats falling in love with each other, and know that he would never know that feeling. He just lacked the ability to fall in love. But this girl, Sofie, liked him. He couldn't just ignore that. And he would feel horrible if he broke his heart. He figured if he had to, he could try to teach himself how to love. But if it would ever come to that, only time could tell. And speak of the devil, he saw a little calico she-cat just up ahead. His paws grew clammy and his heart thudded faster and harder. She would want to talk to him. Mason swallowed hard and tried to force out a hello but it was stuff in his throat. Instead, he just gave Sofie a curt nod.

Sofie Oh, shoot. Sofie caught the gleam of Mason’s blue eyes in the faint moonlight. He sees me. There was a brief awkwardness before he gave her a nod. That didn’t do much to stop the weird silence between them. He was acting differently than usual, almost as if… As if he knew. But he didn’t, right? Unless… Sofie cast a glare in the direction of Asia. She told him. Her annoyance at Anastasia’s betrayal was mixed and evened out by the relief that he knew without her having to admit it to him. She knew perfectly well that Mason was asexual and she had completely given up ever having him as a mate. Nervously, she returned his nod and quietly mewed, “I just came here because I needed somewhere to stay for the night and Asia’s my best friend. Is that all right with you?”//ooc: Heehee watch the awkward o3o

Mason Mason listened to her explanation, perking his ears up. When it registered that she had asked him a question, he bit his tongue, unsure of what to say. Is she asking permission to sleep with us? O-or Asia anyway... why is she asking me? Oh God, what do I say. He panicked for a moment before simply nodding again. Was that enough? He needed to just talk to her... but he never knew what to say. Something simple would her suffice. "Um... yeah that's... fine with, er, me." He mumbled, keeping his voice low and nearly inaudible. He blushed faintly under his fur, embarrassed by how horrible socially awkward he was. These things never got easier, whether he was talking to a male or a female. They both made him nervous. Everything made him nervous.

Sofie Sofie shuffled her paws, staring at the dirt in embarrassment. Come to think of it, she should’ve just gone to stay with her mother for the night. Amber’s humans always welcomed her in for the night when she came over. Suddenly regretting her decision, she took a few nervous steps backwards. “You know, I shouldn’t be out in the city at night. I- I’ll just go stay with Amber. Good night.” She hastily dipped her head to the tom before turning around and smacking into a wall. Disoriented, she crumpled to the concrete in a heap and then scrambled to her paws, hurrying off into the dark without realizing she was going the wrong direction. //ooc: Maybe she gets jumped by a rogue and Mason comes to save her?

Mason Mason watched Sofie, who was acting almost as awkward as he was. Then he watched in half-amusement, half-concern as she scrambled off and plowed right into a wall. He stifled his chuckled and went to approach her, but then she ran off in the opposite direction. Well I can't just let her get lost. With a sigh, he took off after her, easily catching up with the disoriented she-cat. He brushed against her, pushing his shoulder against hers and flicking her ear with his tail-tip. "You, um.... you don't have to go." He meowed, uncertain he had said the right thing, but whatever. It was already out. He turned around, flicking Sofie's nose with is tail, trying to tell her to follow him. He didn't want her to go in the direction she was heading, since it was a lot safer near where him and Anastasia slept.
OOC: Weren't the going to go for a walk in our original plan?

Sofie Sofie was still extremely disoriented. It took her a moment to realize that she had absolutely no idea where she was before she felt a furry shoulder brush against her own. She drew up short, letting out a scared squeak before catching Mason’s scent and realizing he had followed her. He said something, but it was quiet and her heart had sped up when his touch surprised her, so she didn’t hear him. She turned towards him, still panting a little bit from the scare, and quietly asked, “what did you say? I… I didn’t hear you.” This is so awkward! I shouldn’t have left my house in the first place. Crying human kits are nothing compared to this. Nervously, she took a step sideways, away from the snowshoe tom. “I just need to get home,” she whispered, staring at the ground. “Sorry for disturbing you and making you follow me.”

Mason Mason shrugged, then jerked his head, signaling her to follow him once again. "I said... you don't have to leave." He tried to say it louder, but speaking was so hard for him. It was embarrassing and he was always afraid of saying the wrong thing. He didn't really know how to act when another cat liked him since he didn't know the feeling. It just made things even more awkward for him. But he hoped Sofie would follow him, because he didn't want her wandering around the city at night. He already had enough trouble sleeping tonight without worrying that a little calico she-cat was going to get herself into trouble.

Sofie “I don’t?” Sofie glanced quietly back at him, seeing the awkwardness in his eyes and feeling just about the same. This would be so much easier if Asia could have kept her mouth shut! It was still hard to stay angry at her, though. They were best friends, after all. Sofie realized that she’d been quiet for a few heartbeats; Mason was still waiting for her to reply. So she nervously flicked her tail and replied quietly, “I don’t need to stay. It’s all right. I just need to get home.” She turned away again, then noticed she was in an unfamiliar part of the city. “Erm, do you know where we are?” She asked quietly, turning her eyes on him again.

Mason Mason shook his head and gave her a smile. It was genuine, not awkward. He really did want to make her feel welcome. After all, it got pretty lonely in the city at night when a cat couldn't sleep, and he found her company a little refreshing. He was getting a little frustrated, however, when it appeared she was refusing to follow him. Was she not going to accept his offer. "I know where we are." He mumbled. "But um... if you f-follow me, I can get to back." Third time's the charm, or at least he hoped.

Sofie He wants me to follow him. “You… You can?” She blushed under her fur, then nodded. “Yes, please. I don’t know where we are.” She glanced around, feeling suddenly nervous. She wasn’t supposed to be out in the night like this. It was everything her mother had warned her against, and there were rumors of a tom prowling the street at night that she didn’t want to meet up with. It would definitely be best to follow him if he knew the way out. She hesitantly walked over and nodded. “All right,” she muttered quietly.

Mason Ah, thank goodness. She was finally going to follow him. Mason took the lead and led her back toward where his and Asia's den was. She hadn't actually ran too far and he found is quite easy to get back, but of course it was easy. Mason knew this part of the city very well, after growing up in it and all. Soon they were back to where Mason had first spotted Sofie. He didn't know if she was actually going to return home or not, but he kind of hoped she would stay. He got lonely a lot, anyway. But he didn't really know how he would say that to her.

Sofie Sofie sighed with relief as the city street became recognizable again. “Th-Thank you for showing me the way back,” she murmured. “I, uh… I guess I should be going back home now. Thanks for helping… for helping me, uh, find my way.” Her ears grew hot. She felt so stupid! I had better get home quick before I embarrass myself even more. She nodded quickly to him, then turned to leave. Her eyes traveled over the dark scenery, and she was suddenly aware of how many cats were watching her. There were cats everywhere, bright eyes gleaming in the dark. All of a sudden, going out in the dark alone seemed very, very dangerous. Nervously, Sofie ran her tongue over her lips and backed up. “You- you know, I maybe should uh… I might stay here.” Her fur fluffed out. “I don’t… want to walk back alone.”//Ooc: Awkward couple of the year award ;w;

Mason Mason watched her walk away sadly and was about to turn back to sleep beside Anastasia when he heard Sofie come padding back. He turned away and smiled again, letting out a sigh of relief that she had decided not to go after all. "L-like I said, um... you don't have to leave... you can stay, er... here?" Why was it so hard for him to form coherent words? Ugh, it made him so frustrated! But he got words out didn't he, so hopefully she understood what he was talking about. But she seemed just as nervous as he was, and she didn't seem to understand when he said she didn't have to leave. She didn't have to go back home if she really didn't want to. If she needed a place to stay, she was more than welcome to stay here. If only he could form those words outside his head.

Sofie Sofie carefully picked her way back along the street and sat down again, careful to sit on the other side of the still-sleeping Anastasia from Mason. Relieved to have a safe place, at least for the night, she began to feel a little sleepy, but had the feeling she wouldn’t be able to sleep because the embarrassment of the night would be tickling at her belly for who-knew-how-long. Just thinking of how much of an idiot she had made out of herself made her want to curl into her skin and die. Besides, how on Earth did Mason and Asia sleep out here? It was creepy. Everything was unfamiliar at night. The streets that she knew by day turned into dark alleys, hiding away all kinds of terrors in their shadowy depths. Her fur had begun to prickle defensively, but she decided to lie down. Still, part of her mind wanted to do something to lessen the awkward between her and Mason. Why did Asia have to go and ruin their friendship, however small? Out of nowhere, she turned to Mason and said, “I don’t know what Asia told you, but she probably exaggerated.” Oh my god, where did that come from?! She flushed boiling and her eyes widened. Now she really wanted to curl into her skin and die.
